Perl Source Based Installation

Perl Source Based Installation Sometimes we get request to install Perl’s new version along with default OS Perl version (which was installed by RPM). In this case we need to install Perl by building it from the source code as below:- 1.      Download required Perl version from below link. http://www.cpan.org/src/ 2.      Follow below steps to perform installation : [root]# cd /tmp tar -xzf perl-5.10.1.tar.gz       [root]# cd perl-5.10.1 [root]#./Configure -des -Dprefix=/usr/local/perl5.10  <-- desired path will be    here [root]# make [root]# make test [root]# make install 3.      After installation we can see new Perl location as below :- [root ]# whereis perl perl: /usr/bin/perl  /usr/local/bin/perl  /usr/local/perl5.10   Now ask user to use new Perl path in their scripts/work instead of default Perl path which is /usr/bin...

nmap - Network exploration tool and security / port scanner

Nmap ("Network Mapper") is an open source tool for network exploration and security auditing. It was designed to rapidly scan large networks, although it works fine against single hosts. Nmap uses raw IP packets in novel ways to determine what hosts are available on the network, what services (application name and version) those hosts are offering, what operating systems (and OS versions) they are running, what type of packet filters/firewalls are in use, and dozens of other characteristics. While Nmap is commonly used for security audits, many systems and network administrators find it useful for routine tasks such as network inventory, managing service upgrade schedules, and monitoring host or service uptime

How To Change MTU Value Of Network Interface In Linux

MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) is related to TCP/IP networking which refers to the size (in bytes) of the largest datagram that can be pass at a time. We can see current MTU value as below : $ifconfig eth0 eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:0F:EA:91:04:07          inet addr:192.168.1.2  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0          inet6 addr: fe80::20f:eaff:fe91:407/64 Scope:Link          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1          RX packets:141567 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0          TX packets:141306 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000          RX bytes:101087512 (96.4 MiB)  TX bytes:32695783 (31.1 MiB)          Interrupt:18 Base address:0xc000 OR ...

How to run fdisk in non-interactive mode

fdisk is a command-line utility for disk partition management.If you are going to create one or two partition then its okay to go with manual user intracetion method of fdisk. But if the partition list is a bit longer or we can say its repitative for several machines then need to seek some automation , here we go for probable two solutions for this : - Solution - I : Using below shell script #!/bin/sh sdd="/dev/sdb /dev/sdc /dev/sdd" for i in $sdd do echo "n p 1 t 8e w "|fdisk $i;pvcreate "$i"1;done n = Create new partition p = Primary partition 1 = 1st partition of primary type t = Partition type 8e = Linux LVM Note: two consicuitve blank lines between 1 and t . Solution - II : Using sfdisk Utility This tool allows you to create/change partition tables according to the disk partitioning specification read from standard input. It also allows you to export the partition table specification of a device to a file, so tha...

Linux : Basic Network Configuration , Set ip,eth0,gateway,netmask Temporarily or Permanent

For latest Redhat Linux OS versions, we can configure network in few steps. There are two types of methods are there for network configuration Temporary: In which IP temporarily will be assigned to Ethernet card, and will gone across reboot or  network restart. Permanent: In which network configuration will be set permanently (in config files), so will be consistent across the reboot or network restart. We will see both types here, before that we will need few things kinda prerequisite as below: Sample Set-up Scenario : Linux Static TCP/IP Settings IP address: 192.168.1.50 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Hostname: UL_SERVER Gateway IP: 192.168.1.1 Display All interfaces ( Including Disabled Interfaces ) # ifconfig -a Dislplay only Active/Enable Ineterface #ifconfig Disable and Enable an Interface # ifconfig eth0 down # ifconfig eth0 up Method  1 - Temporary Netwok Setup Assign ip-address to an Interface and set netmask and broa...
